The key to success? Being Happy

That was the main conclusion of yesterday’s event organized by HispaColex Law Firm with speakers such as María Pérez, our Olympic champion and Margarita Álvarez P de Zabalza, excellent communicator of happiness as an engine of life and companies.

From María Pérez I take the importance of physical and mental 🏃 ♀️ ♂️ 🏃 health, which has led her to be at the top getting two medals in the last Olympics. 🥇 🥈 An athlete who advocates leaving negative thoughts quickly and changing to continue improving. How she was strong enough to face her failures and get up to train and reach the top. Everyone looks at the results, not the journey.

From Margarita I take these conclusions that I think are important to highlight.

  1. Antifragility and resilience: Margarita mentioned the concept of antifragility, which goes beyond resilience. It is not just about recovering from adversity, but about coming out stronger and better after the experience. This concept was linked to his own experience and to the way organizations should handle challenges.
  2. Integral well-being: Margarita highlighted several dimensions of well-being, both for individuals and organizations: physical, emotional, relational, mental and spiritual well-being. He stressed the importance of taking care of these aspects to keep employees motivated and productive, and how happiness is not only always being well, but also achieving life satisfaction that can coexist with moments of sadness.
  3. Flexibility and work relationships: Current employees, especially young people, greatly value flexibility, but Margarita warns that this should not mean emotional disconnection at work. Creating meaningful bonds and relationships in the workplace remains crucial for talent motivation and retention.
  4. Empathy and trust: In team management, empathy is key to understanding the individual challenges of each employee and emotionally recovering teams after difficult times. Margarita shared an anecdote about how she had to assume leadership in the midst of a business crisis and how empathy was essential to overcome that situation.
  5. Technology and personalization: Technology can help improve interaction with people, but its main goal should be to humanize labor relationships, not dehumanize them. In addition, he stressed the importance of personalizing the employee experience, adapting policies to different needs and expectations.
  6. Purpose and growth: Having a clear purpose within the organization is essential to motivate employees. Margarita emphasized that the sense of contribution and personal growth within the work is key for people to feel engaged and satisfied.
  7. Diversity and innovation: Diversity in teams is not only an ethical value, but it is a source of innovation. Surrounding yourself with people with different perspectives helps to question inertia and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  8. Humility and recognition: Humility, both on the part of new hires and leaders, is critical to learning and growing. He also underlined the importance of recognition, noting that one of the main reasons for dissatisfaction is not feeling valued.

In summary, Margarita Álvarez’s talk combines reflections on leadership, talent management and emotional well-being with personal and professional examples that illustrate the importance of creating humanised, resilient and motivated work environments.

And of course, we were able to touch the medals! Congratulations to Hispacolex for this day and to be happy!
